Maryland IQ Testing

Aptitude Intelligence and IQ Testing

Our Maryland IQ testing is performed by a trained psychologist to evaluate giftedness, learning problems, and to help determine academic needs for possible inclusion in special education (IEP) or a 504 plan.

IQ testing may also help you advocate for your child to obtain accommodation (additional time) for standardized testing (SAT, ACT, etc). Sometimes IQ testing is required by an employer or is helpful to court proceedings such as establishing custody.

What gets measured in an IQ test?

IQ testing measures a student’s abilities on tests of verbal linguistic skills, such as:

  • Long-term memory
  • Abstract reasoning
  • Vocabulary development
  • Comprehension
  • Auditory short-term memory

IQ testing also measures non-verbal skills, such as:

  • Visual organization and memory
  • Nonverbal reasoning
  • Planning ability
  • Visual motor coordination
  • Spatial visualization ability
  • Short-term visual memory

Supplemental cognitive tests may be given to further assess any problem areas based on in-take information and observations (e.g., attention, organization, visual-auditory associative memory, processing speed, auditory (phonological processing), long-term retrieval, visuo-spatial memory and fluid reasoning.
