Washington DC - Anxiety and Stress

PDF Print E-mail

stressed_womanAre you suffering from too much stress in your life? Is your work performance or career ailing because of your anxiety? In Washington DC anxiety and stress may seem unavoidable. Most of the time this is true, but when anxiety begins to affect your relationships and work, it is important that you take action to address it.  How should you do this?

I remember first hearing what sounded like an unusual perspective about anxiety: “When you encounter anxiety in your life, welcome it and say ‘I’m so glad you’re here.’” This person was not sadistic as you might think, but rather was speaking from experience about how to “deal with” stress. Anxiety is telling us something we need to know. While we do want to have working strategies that keep us mentally and physically healthy, we don't want to get rid of our anxiety before learning what it may be trying to teach us. Efforts to “manage” stress, while important, may reduce symptoms but they may never resolve the core issues that spawn your anxiety in the first place.

Self-help resources alone do not always shed enough light--consistently and persistently enough--to illuminate areas of your life that are hidden or resistant to change. Talking with a trained professional can help you understand the complex interactions between your anxiety and things like family dynamics, the unconscious, spiritual beliefs, drug or alcohol use, or addictive patterns.

A two-pronged approach is needed.  By taking the step of talking with me about your anxiety and stress, we will partner to strengthen your psychological, emotional, physical and spiritual resources to increase your resiliency to anxiety. At the same time we will take a look at what potential opportunities may exist as a result of your stress that can be an avenue to an improved way of living and a happier life. You will find yourself more confident to make decisions and more focused and available in your most important relationships.

I hope you’ll call today and take a step toward feeling better!
