Want to Quit? You Can Take Control of Your Addiction.
Does it feel impossible to stop a behavior or feeling? I can help you feel in control again.
I provide addiction counseling with people in all stages of recovery from alcohol abuse, drug abuse, sex addiction, pornography addiction, gambling addiction, shopping addiction, or other compulsive behaviors like eating disorders.
I use a model of treatment called Self-Leadership that has been called "one of the most innovative kinds of psychotherapy in recent years" by a respected academic figure in family studies. It is different from standard models of treatment for addictions that emphasize behavior compliance.
Some kinds of treatment can make it HARDER to quit because shame isn't addressed and understood. Relapse does not have to be feared or avoided, but can be a critical and valuable part of recovery when given eyes to see how it works as a protective agent.
Self-Leadership is an "inside-out" approach, so you can expect changes to be noticed mostly by you for a while, and then it's easier to make lasting behavioral shifts in your life and relationships. It doesn't happen over-night, and for this reason, you may still need other types of recovery support while you work with me in psychotherapy. Others find that the self-leadership skills you learn in addictions counseling with me is like the missing puzzle piece that lets them finally experience recovery without creating new dependencies.
You may want to consider addiction counseling if:
·You know you have an addiction and need more help to stop it ·Other professionals (your doctor or mental health professional) have raised concerns about your use of drugs, alcohol, or food ·You have tried to stop a behavior that makes you feel out of control · The behavior you want to stop interferes with your work or personal relationships ·The time and energy you spend trying to hide or cover up a behavior interferes with your life ·You have been ordered by a court to receive addiction counseling
